In conjunction with High Rise Ent, Manchester Grime collective High Rise launched their brand new website not too long ago, and with it came a free give-away in the form of the “Higher Power” mixtape, strength in numbers proving correct as the crew consists of the likes of Hypes, Flexplicit, Dialect, Xp and G Money amongst others. The mixtape features a solod 20 tracks, and features different styles on display from Hip Hop to Grime, and of course Trap. Everyone gets their chance top shine, from Hypes and Xp who both team up on “Ya Mad”, a Grime banger alongside Vader, using musical elements and instruments to break down competition, to “HighRise Everything” featuring Bigz, Dialect, Hypes, Xp and Flexplicit on a blazing Hip Hop instrumental, flexing their ravenous, lyrical ability. “Smoking Berry” which Savage joins up with Hypes, Xp and Flexplicit is a weed-injected bass-heavy dub, with Savage spitting wavey, fast-paced bars, depicting a hectic lifestyle, Hypes dropping superb punchlines, Xp going in with captivating delivery, and Flexplicit dropping rapid lyrically brilliant bars. “Gps” is a track that speaks for a society of lost peeps with so many obstacles obstructing their dreams, caught up in violence and bad mind people, and politics holding us down. The last track “Music” features Tame, Xp and Flexplicit on a anthemic, piano-led Hip Hop beat, with a stand-up chorus which shouts out for HighRise, with Xp rhyming about a hard life full of stress, reflecting on happier days, throwing a finger up to the law, and Tame tries and makes sense of what purpose we serve on earth, comparing the game as a circus and he as the ringmaster, controlling the shutdown, and speaking on learning from life lessons, and leaving fakes and snakes behind.
