‘Montparnasse’ is the new single by London based duo Lewn, consisting of real life brothers Jack and Patrick Lewin. Featuring South London MC Koder also, the song is inspired by French composer Francis Poulenc, and both being clasically trained, they form their own “visceral soundscapes”, creating this hazy R&B inspired track that is sounds like a surreal, dream-like state of drowning. The instruments, drums and piano keys, trickle along slowly with the vocals also sauntering and drawling, reaching the climax, the point when Koder steps in with his own verse, bringing you back to reality. Yet his vocals are fragmented, and he raps about going off the rails in a relationship, excellently and innovatively comparing it to driving.
Having been involved in music from an early age, both brothers are classically trained with an intuitive approach to composition. Jack graduated from University with a first class Chemistry degree before making the life-changing decision to pursue a career in music and now studies at the world-renowned Abbey Road Studios, where he has recorded and engineered tracks for artists such as Daniel OG/Neverland, Bakar, Mista Silva, Ghstly and Koder. Patrick, who plays the guitar, is currently studying Audio Engineering at UWE in Bristol.
