Elament & Rebel – Zero Gravity
OGC presents the new mixtape from West London MC’s Elament and Rebel, two of many producer/rappers in the OG Club collective. The mixtape features production and vocal guest spots from fellow OGC member including JBJustBusiness, Sihal Sharma, Blaze and BigHomieCee as well as Showzie, Solo, Litez and singer Monica. The production style on the mixtape varies from pounding, bass-heavy trap beats to more ambient synthesized melodious trap instrumentals. The mixtape opens with ‘How It All Started’, which features Rebel and Elament laying down wavey southern flows on a tingling, atmospheric hip hop instrumental alongside BigHomieCee, rhyming about their humble beginnings, expressing their gratitude for the supporters from day one. Throughout the track, the mc’s refer to their team and the day one’s, with tracks like ‘Time Fly’s’, with production from Sahil Sharma, the rappers reflect on strong unity in a close knit circle. Similar tracks include ‘Only Getting Closer’ and ‘For The Squad’ both of which they recognise and praise their squad that have been down and always around for them, promising the share of wealth. Whilst they show love for those that reciprocate, some tracks reflect and attack haters and those showing fake love or support, with tracks like ‘We Ready’, a bassy, grizzly trap banger with a darkening melody, in which Rebel and Elament attack haters and the law with ferocity, due to them preein them as they handle their business trying to put a halt to their success. ‘Didn’t Wanna Know’ deals with those fickle minded people that hate you when you have nothing to give but when you start succeeding you have something to offer them. Also featured on the mixtape is the recent single taken from the project, ‘Keep It 100’, produced by Blaze, keeping it 100 percent real with their bars, as Rebel barks ferocious warnings at those gunning for him, and JB emphasizes that he mostly moves on his own, whilst rhyming about smoking weed and drinking. Check out the music video for this banger which won’t disappoint, displaying energetic flows and hard hitting lyricism. Elament and Rebel also deliver some straight bangers like ‘No Sleep’, featuring Solo, which lyrically depicts sleepless nights on the constant grind, needing to get paid even though it may get tiresome. ‘West Boi’ kicks off with pandemonium as snippets of news casts report on rioting, with the lyrics stating that they are go getters for the money, bypassing enemies and rivals. BigHomieCee features on another track, a pounding trap tune, as they spit about the non-stop grind, either making music or on the roads chasing the dough, either way the outcome is money. And ‘Sunrise’ depicts a lifestyle in which the rappers are up early already trying to make money, weeks filled with studio time, grinding and chilling. Two other tracks that caught my attention were Plug My Food’, a track that talks of a ride or die chick that is down to pug their food, helping them out of sticky situations. And then there is ‘West Side Committee’ which Rebel and Elament come across as a couple of hood stars, having to give an all-round tour of the West to females that are smitten with their fly lifestyle and imagery, taking them on a guided tour of the West ends, as they express their passion for the West.
Throughout the mixtape, Rebel and Elament display excellent song writing and song craft skills, delivering some hot hooks, some from Elament especially are auto-tuned, which makes the chorus even more distinguishable and outstanding, and their flows and delivery vary, from slow and hard hitting to rapid at times, to stuttering trapesque flows and laid back delivery. Nevertheless, the lyricism depicts their humbleness as two upcoming artists, having their priorities right in terms of loyalty towards friends and family, and emphasize their ambition to get money.
