Before releasing his recent EP ‘Tom Hardy’, Grime MC Murkerz released the ‘Dark Knight Returns’ EP at the start of this year. As you may have realised, both refer to the Batman films, and Tom Hardy’s character Bane. What better way than to kick off the EP than with Murkerz spitting straight fire over Sir Spyro’s pounding Grime-come-Trap remix of the classic Batman theme. Murkerz peppers the beat with killer bars. The lashing production of ‘Break’ sees Murkerz coax rivals to come at him, stating that he is not easily broken, lyrically and metaphorically pulling out the tools, as he kicks skippy flows over the beat. Likewise, ,Murkerz attacks mc’s in general on ‘About Shelling’, delivering gully bars, sending deadly threats to competition. Murkerz rhymes over an up-tempo grime beat with sinister strings for ‘More Sleep’, delving in to his dangerous life away from music, conveying the paranoia that builds up daily, having to keep eyes in the back his head. The final two tracks feature clever, witty lyricism from Murkerz, with ‘Murkapath’ referencing many films such as I Am Legend and Iron Man, likening himself to a super villain, whilst the final track entitled ‘Breakin Bad’ features rapid flows and much energy from Murkerz as he rains down big punchlines.
Murkerz’ lyricism knows no boundaries as he deliver much outrageous bars through out this EP, whether he is ferociously firing pars at rival mc’s, or just letting off rounds, showcasing ludicrous wordplay. The energy from Murkerz complements the up-tempo Grime and Trap production that he selected for this release. And it seems that Murkerz has kept up the constant lyrical prowess from this release to his latest project.
