Manchester MC JB kicks of the new year with the release of his new mixtape ‘You’ve Arrived’. Not boxed in to one particular genre, the production on the mixtape sees JB bounce from Hip Hop to Grime, with tracks like the title track, featuring JB rhyme over a thumping, lashing Hip Hop instrumental, rhyming about his humble beginnings from his home town to where music has taken him. ‘Half The Story’ is a more trapesque vibe which JB spits sauntering flows, talking to the woman in his life as he expresses his feelings for her. JB then switches it up with a couple of grime bangers, the first track featuring Che3kz and is entitled ‘Being Me’. The two mc’s spray bars over a bass-heavy trapesque grime instrumental, possessing energetic, rapid flows. The second of the two grime tracks is ‘We Aint The Same’ and features Blaze. JB especially shells the beat with skippy flows. This track depicts the two mc’s as being in another league to rival mc’s. Other notable tracks to check out on the mixtape are JB’s remix of Mobb Deep’s ‘Shook Ones’ on which he kicks solid flows on, delivering deep bars in which he talks about his circle of friends and family, stating that he is happier on his own as he continues on his music journey. Another banger is ‘Carry On’, a ferocious Hip Hop track on which JB lyrically emphasizes his hunger and determination, and metaphorically, JB states that he will fight every battle until he reaches his goals.
JB releases an amazing mixtape that is varied in sound, and showcases JB’s versatility as an artist. Jumping from Grime to Hip Hop effortlessly, JB can easily switch up his style to suit a particular sound, whether it is up-tempo or more slow paced. JB’s lyricism is also rather personal to him which makes him more relatable and real, and his song structure and song craft, his ability to write catchy or distinguishable hooks is also up there.
