CASSCADE – “CURSE OF A CREATIVE” EP
23 Year-old North West London Rapper Casscade drops his long-awaited “Curse Of A Creative” EP, which is 8 tracks deep, this is the third instalment following on from last year’s project “Only For The Summer”. The new EP features leadingg singles ‘Where Were You’ and ‘Plan A Meets Plan B’, the former an atmospheric, trapesque Hip Hop track with lyrics from Casscade as he rhymes about the lack of support from some people in times of need, as he only praises the ones that stuck it out with him. This one features a singing hook from Casscade which shows his versatility. ‘Plan A Meets Plan B’, which had a video released for it via SBTV, depicts a mental battle that Casscade goes through as a creative, something which this EP explores as a whole. The lyrics depict two different plans set out from Casscade, Plan B or the first verse, depicting a version of him that’s given up on music and taken a corporate approach to life. Plan A in this conversation expresses why he should keep up the music and revealing how far he has come.
Tracks like ‘Prey To Love’, ‘Blue Skies’ and ‘Drowning In Your Love’ depict the emotions that Casscade feels when in love or looking for it. ‘Prey To Love’ reveals Casscade’s struggle to find love in the right place, as he rhymes about his stresses and the pressure of growing up and chasing his dreams. ‘Blue Skies’, an electronic Hip Hop/Dance production featuring singer Carmy Love, is a more ponderous track about a past relationship, both Casscade and Carmy delivering metaphors on their lyrics that depict their fears of being alone and needing each other there. Casscade even stating he only has the music left which he is trying to make his. ‘Drowning In Your Love’ is another love song with a metaphorical meaning to it, depicting the love he has for a woman as leaving him with a drowning feeling.
‘Look At You Now’ also features Carmy Love, and has a 90s R&B vibe to it production-wise, and explores the curse of being a creative in love with a woman who desires love and affection, yet the music gets in the way of love-making and quality time. Carmy Love provides yet more magnificent and soulful vocals. ‘Sauce’ is the finale of the EP and features lyrics from Casscade who showcases great wordplay, the lyrics illustrating a cold-heartedness that has overcome him, taking a woman when and if he fancies. The deeper cause of this is most probably down to a certain line in which Casscade states that women are unpredictable, and due to some of his experiences in love on previous tracks, it might be more fun to let loose.
The “Curse Of A Creative” EP is a plateau on which Casscade reveals his more personal emotions and experiences, particularly in love, as he battles with his musical career and the problems that creatives face even on a daily basis. The production on this project is melodious and ambient, with trapesque beats and soulful and R&B melodies. The lyrical ability on display is excellent, Casscade employing a creative writing side that is emphasized by the metaphorical meanings of some tracks and such clever wordplay from him.
