The Tailormade – Thoughts, Fears and Beers

The Tailormade are an Indie-Brit Pop trio of Singer/Songwriters, Jack Frimston, Matt Pickersgill and Aaron Murphy, who are literally what their name suggest, having risen from the underground scene, having found success by busking on the tube stations of London, and crowned as the capital’s “Best Buskers” by Mayor Boris Johnson in 2015. The Tailormade have also played to a sell out crowd at North London’s O2 Academy, supporting the likes of Blue and Rebecca Ferguson, also gained the attention of commuters as well as the famous, Gary Linekar and Emma Thompson, the latter of which describes them as “the dog’s b*&%ocks”, stopping by on the underground to chuck some money in their hat. The Tailormade are introduced to you with their new debut 6-track, self-penned EP “Thoughts, Fears and Beers”, which hit No.5 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts.
The Tailormade present via these collection songs a mix of sounds, heavily relying on string led production and drums, all rhythmic and backed by the melodious and harmonious vocals of the trio. From Jazz-influenced tracks like ‘Rum & Redbull”, about drinking rum of a night and falling in love at the sight of a woman and having a laugh, to laid-back Reggae vibes on ‘She Loves Me’, featuring a catchy hook and vocals delivered with British swagger, and lyrics illustrating the undying love two lovers share, The Tailormade showcase their eclectic musical taste and influences.
‘Days Of Our Lives’ is an up-tempo, fun and lively track that serves as a kind of single for the EP, with a music video to accompany. This song depicts the everyday fun and games of living in the city, being nagged by your Mother to get a job, lounging around and boozing in the sun and checking out the girls, and reminiscing on the school days and times spent with mates. The production features prominent claps and percussion, with a a chorus that is not only infectious but uplifting too.
The EP also features tracks like ‘Magnets’, featuring acoustic strings, and a well structured song at that with a great build up to the chorus, and ‘For The Love’ which is similar in style and sound. Both of these tracks talk about love but in different instances. ‘Magnets’ makes use of a metaphor to describe the attraction of a man and a woman. ‘For The Love’ which breaks out in to a Drum and Bass beat a minute or so in to the song, throws out the motto that life is what you make it, as the trio sing about not wanting much money but just enough to get by, making music for the love, opting for friends and late nights working in the studio. The final track of the EP is called ‘Take Me Home’, a rhythmic, pitter-patter beat and contagious strings, the song depicting again the attraction of a boy and a girl, but on the dance floor with the intentions of both heading home together, not before a cheeky dance.
After listening to The Tailormade’s debut EP “Thoughts, Fears and Beers”, it has left me in high spirits with an urge to get up and dance to to these tracks, not to mention having a chorus or too stuck in my head, breaking out loud to sing for no apparent reason. The Tailormade showcase their harmonious singing talents and electric production influences, giving you fun and lively tracks to jam to. These tracks are from the minds of three Londoners who just aspire to earn a living but have fun too, drink booze with mates and meet a girl.
