Derby-based MC V.X has just dropped the new “Ghost” EP, with guest appearances from Kannan, Lox, Phidizz, Eyez and Staxxy to name a few, and original production from A2Z. V.X adapts to Grime tunes like ‘I’m The Man’, which displays brilliant song writing with an infectious hook and rapid flows, to ‘Crime Scene’ sees V.X and fellow Derby rapper Staxxy take to sauntering trap beat with Spanish/latin style guitar riffs, the two taking on a “ride with us or collide with us” attitude. ‘Wrapped Up’ is one of two original produced tracks by A2Z, and features Lox, Jay Swarve & Kayse alongside V.X, the four delivering fast-flowing, cruddy lyrics that are about their recreational drug use and erratic attitudes. V.X bars with some of the elite barrers on ‘Ziltch’, featuring Kannan, Lox, Phidizz and Eyez. One of several tracks, ‘Levitate’ included, V.X causes collateral damage with his bars. V.X drops some deep, story-telling lyrics on ‘Gone’, conveying the heartache in V.X’s life, as he expresses his thoughts and emotions looking back on certain situations and events. These occurrences seem to have affected how he has turned out. Yet another song that differs from the rest is ‘I Ain’t Worried’ which features singer Grace on the chorus. V.X emphasizes his fearlessness to those that may be against him or gunning for him.
V.X serves up a brilliant EP which should tide his fans over until a fuller project, yet is a great introduction for many newer listeners. The EP displays V.X’s grittier lyrical content and exciting flows which are full of energy, whether he is double-timing it on a trap or rap beat or keeping up the pace on a up-tempo grime instrumental.
