Derby-based Hip Hop artist Staxxy is back with a new mixtape called “Cassette Tape Side B”. Featuring much Trap production yet melodic and soulful, the beats somewhat reflect Staxxy’s melancholy and thoughtful rhymes and calm, laid back delivery. The tracks are arranged on the mix tapeee almost in order of subject, with Staxxy rhyming about the very real issues in his life on tracks like ‘Let It Rain’, on which he counts his blessings for everyday he is alive, to ‘I Know’ where Staxxy spits about the dangers that come with his lifestyle and his home town. These two particular tracks are just two of the trap-influenced beats, both having chiming melodies which reflect the melancholy vibes.
Through all of the pain and stress that Staxxy experiences in his life, he reveals on ‘My Cup’ and ‘Natural High’ of the methods of how he relieves the stress, from drinking to smoking weed. Sam Moore and Jamie Joseph both feature on ‘Natural High’ which has an R&B sound production-wise, and features a chorus that is multi-layered by fabulous singing vocals. As well as cleansing his mind from the pressures and painful memories, ‘Roll On My Own’ and ‘Alone’ are about Staxxy ridding his circle of friends and family of anyone that he can’t trust or brings negativity upon him.
‘Fine Wine’ is a track that is about Staxxy finding a woman who he wants to spend the rest of his life with, waking up with and wining and dining. Female singer Zee is the guest appearance on this song, a Jazz-influenced Hip Hop track with soulful singing from Zee alongside Staxxy on the hook. ‘Slow Dance’ is another that conveys Staxxy’s wishes to settle down with a girl that wants to proceed and have a life with. ‘Insane’, which is the second to last track on the mixtape, sees Staxxy spit lyrics about some of the madness from losing his uncle in devastating circumstances to reaping the rewards of his constant work rate and aspiring to achieve his dreams of a musical career.
Staxxy delivers another mixtape with music that is heart-felt, from the heart and real as it depicts his own experiences, as Staxxy reveals the highs and the lows of his life again.
