REDRO KILLSON – Divine27
Whether you missed it (I know I did somehow!) or just been sleeping on him, Redro Killson aka n**** i sang better then everybody u know, the Drug Abusing God’s Gift 2 This Mothaf***in World, released a new album back in August, the long awaited and much anticipated “Divine27”. The album is made up of 17 tracks that take you on somewhat of a downward spiral along with Redro, as he delivers harmonies on bass-booming trap beats, soulful ballads and r&b/trap fusion. ‘Empty Bottle’, a song about Redro Killson experiencing cold sweats after going sober, and ‘MOD’ which delves in to Redro’s childhood with a mother on drugs, are based around Redro’s drug abuse and play a part in songs such as ‘PainAway’ which conveys the pain that Redro is so desperately trying to shake off. Redro Killson instils his religious beliefs on ‘HeaTh-EN’ and ‘Talk2GXD’, the latter of which features lyrics from Redro that emphasize on how much he has given up to be a star at the request of GXD who he states he also needs to talk to.
For most of the album, Redro’s lyrical content is emotionally driven by themes of drug abuse, pain and suffering and the urge to be freed, with tracks like ‘FREE’ and ‘Hoe Appreciation’ also addressing Redro’s encounters with women, where it is implied that sex, drugs and singing can heal the mind and soothe the senses. Redro Killson is a multi-talented artist who can rap too on ‘Brain Gang’ featuring Twisted Insane, Z and Dikulz, a gully trap banger which is very much in conjunction with the rest of the album in referring to recreational drug use and ’27Years’ is another one referring to Redro Killson drug use, his age and the infamous 27 Club where artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse has died from drug and alcohol abuse. In a a way, this album is Redro Killson plea to GXD to show and take the pain away before he sadly overdoses on substances.
My favourite tracks on the album are ‘FREE’, the production is made up of a deep bassline that just simmers and Redro Killson’s singing vocals are just so calming but excruciating too. ‘Empty Bottle’ and it’s soulful vibes conflicting with the trap beat is brilliantly produced. ‘Brain Gang’ has got to be a favourite too just merely because all four artists go hard with the flows and bars and this represents what being brainsick is about. ‘Tha Word’ is another likeable track.
