New Years is upon us and as the fireworks are going off, the biggest banger of them all comes from East Midlands repper and Setting Pace emcee Rame, who has unleashed his first offering of 2017, Napalm Flows – The Remix EP which follows the success of the original and a big year for him and the Setting Pace family who have “gone from strength to strength in 2016”.
The original remix track is produced by Chemist RNS who delivers a punchy, bouncy, bass line fuelled beat, which complements the energy that is matched by Rame rapid fire, skippy flows and sharp lyricism packed with clever punchlines.
Kronzy takes the track to a darker and colder, more ambient place, giving it the “classic Grime treatment”, and his use of strings, which add atmospheric depth, and the RnG vocal stabs give this track new life.
JP Music gets even more darker with a “snarling vibe”. His use of dark, twisted, coiling synths and grizzly bass line and up tempo percussion gives Rame’s vocals a newly found aggressiveness, his flows ripping through the beat like the flames he spits.
P739, a name that is recommended to watch out for, likewise for all the other producers on the EP, delivers a headrocker. A racy production featuring trickling synths, ambience and fizzing bass line, this one has a sort of alien vibe to it.
TeeDee bravely steps in to UKG territory, producing a Garage beat pattern with a growling, deep bass line and organs. A terrific piece of production from TeeDee that stands out again for it’s originality and unorthodox approach.
Kris Jay is last up with an 808 laced remix, a trap banger, and is another, dark, evil vibe on the EP. Rame’s vocals fit perfectly on the beat, one that “could have easily been on the latest Gucci Mane album”. Really does sound like Rame is spraying fire from the pits of hell, terrorising his rivals!
