Rude Kid- Monsters (EP)
Rude Kid, a lynchpin in the Grime Scene, a gatekeeper via Kiss FM’s flagship grime show #KissGrime, surely a top 3 producer in any grime producer poll, an innovator in the scene, has returned with a “Monster” of an EP. Packed with six sick, grimy productions, this follows up his BBC Radio 1Xtra A-listed single ‘Banger After Banger’ featuring Ghetts. Mastered at Relentless No. 5, the EP features the Wiley smash ‘Joe Bloggs’ from his “Godfather” album released earlier this year, and the instrumental for ‘Banger After Banger’. Previously unheard gems include aptly named beats, ‘Brain Freeze’, a hybrid production influenced by Drum and Bass, Garage and Grime. This one will leave you feeling like the bassline is drilling in to your brain, leaving you with literal brain freeze. ‘Master System’ goes heavy on the retro game synths and is sci-fi themed. ‘Bloody Hell’ is a dark and sinister grime instrumental that would add terror to any horror film. The bassline is intense and the kicks, even on the other beats too, is tight and thudding. ‘Galaxy’ is the final unheard production from Rude Kid, and with Jamaican vocal samples, this one is just straight up merky. The synths are true to Rude Kid’s alien, sci-fi production style, and dark and moody.
Rude Kid has had an intangible level of success for any Grime DJ/Producer this last year, powered by Relentless to represent the UK at SXSW earlier in the year, and the spotlight has been on his attributions to the last decade of the genre of Grime music, in recent months, and rightfully so. This has been widely documented in Complex, Noisey, Clash Music and beyond. Rude Kid played out at Glastonbury, Wireless, and has gone international, putting his own Grime twist on official remixes by artists including Chase & Status, J Hus, Wilkinson, Gorgon City and Laura Mvula, spreading his sound to new ears, and making him a well sought after producer for Grime.
Giving away some exceptional work for an exceptional and reasonable price, Rude Kid once again goes beyond expectations, pushing the boundaries, and letting loose six “Monsters” on the rest of the Grime scene.
