Manchester-raised, Africa-born Tobi Sunmola follows up some rather gripping visuals for previous single ‘Never Forget We’re Here/Tales From The East IV’ with this brand new single ‘Simba’, a visceral release that explores the racial, ethnological struggles that he faces as an artist in today’s industry. Gritty and emotional, Tobi delivers with infectious flows and hook patterns on a bouncy Hip Hop beat with melancholy chords, telling his own story of racial upheavals and heartache, but nevertheless, Nigerian-born Tobi Sunmola has stayed positive and resilient in his pursuit of greatness.

Talking on the track, Tobi Sunmola explains – “It talks about who I am as a person, the colour of my skin and how that may either hinder my growth to where I aspire to be.”

Tobi Sunmola is currently in the studio with Joe Hertz, Bipolar Sunshine, Wretch 32 and Jacob Banks, as he works towards the release of his forthcoming EP. With support coming from Stephens and Mistajam on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, Complex, Flavour Magazine and Lost Culture. He topped these successes with a performance at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in 2016. But Tobi’s humble beginnings saw him gain support from the Metro and Manchester Evening News, both identifying his potential from early on. And he doesn’t forget his roots either, teaming up with Two4Kay – who has previously worked with Link Up TV and The 405 – for this new release, a result of a long-standing relationship early on in their careers within a tight-knit Manchester music scene.

Unorthodox in his approach to music, Tobi Sunmola’s rich, African heritage is an underlying theme in his lyrics and in the sound. Self-awareness pushes Tobi’s music along as he explores religion, culture and racial issues are just some of the topics and themes that Tobi explores. Named as MOBO’s ‘One To Watch’, ‘Simba’ is sure to place Sunmola as one the UK’s most exciting, rising Hip Hop artists this year.
