Scorcher ft D Double E – Jurgen
Needing no introduction, North and East London collide as Grime veterans Scorcher and D Double E team up for ‘Jurgen’, a new single taken from Scorcher’s forthcoming album ‘The Drama’.
‘Jurgen’ is heavyweight Drill-infused Grime banger with a nostalgic feel, as the two emcee’s take to a DJ Lyan-produced beat that samples an iconic song in that of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s hit ‘Still D.R.E’, bringing the original rap tune into the modern day sound of Drill that is surging the music industry.
Scorcher has of course had an extensive career with many highlights, achievements and accolades, and has continued to evolve over the years, moving in his own lane. He kicks off this heavyweight track with the ferocity that we have come to expect from him, flowing energetically and with vigor, spraying punchlines that immediately grab your attention, channeling his self-assured presence on the beat, displaying his undoubted lyrical prowess with stand out bars like “It’s real life not virtual / Take my advice bro / Don’t be outside anytime man’s circle”. D Double E only sends this heater into overdrive, delivering his signature adlibs and attacking the instrumental with a barrage of unapologetic bars.
The visuals reflect the dark vibe of the track, with a shadowy video which follows Scorcher around as he performs his bars, surrounded by some young, attractive women in a luxurious whip. A simple concept, however effective, Scorcher’s pen game is the main focus, as he brings the energy and sets the tone for his forthcoming album.
Scorcher is championed as one of the most respected talents in Black British culture, with his catalogue speaking for itself. Starting out in local crew Cold Blooded, he is perhaps one of the pioneers of North London Grime. He progressed to joining The Movement, which would now be considered a super group, and consisted of then up and comers Wretch 32, of North London, Bow’s Mercston, Plaistow’s Ghetts, and Devlin from Dagenham. Scorcher was very much a part of the pirate radio era, and along with The Movement, had a momentous clash with Boy Better Know. Not just an emcee, Scorcher has produced over the years, with classics like ‘Way Down The Road’, ‘Beef With T’, and ‘Igloo Remix’ to name a few.
The early noughties saw Scorcher drop classics such as ‘No One Else’ and ‘My Diary’, whilst he linked up with Snap Capone and Skeamer for ‘Stay Real’ in 2020. His continuous run has seen him conquer a range of creative industries, taking his love and skill for acting to the next level, with roles in ‘The Intent’, ‘Top Boy’ and ‘Small Axe’, cementing his status in the scene as someone that transcends the constraints of music.
Scorcher undoubtedly kick-started 2021 with a bang, and recently featured on season 3 of the BBC’s award-winning show ‘The Rap Game UK’ as a guest judge alongside Krept & Konan. Scorcher also featured on Tion Wayne’s newly-released ‘Green With Envy’ album on track ‘Make It Out’ with Potter Payper, Rimzee and Joe Black. As the anticipation builds in the lead up to his forthcoming album ‘The Drama’, it’s clear to see that Scorcher is here to make a statement of intent, with a lot to get off his chest.
