Stakka lyrics – Ground Level (volume one)

Ground Level (volume one)

Rhymepad Records owner and Hip Hop MC Stakka Lyrics finally unveiled his latest release, via bandcamp, the project is an EP entitled ‘Ground Level’ Volume One. Featuring production from Termite, Chairman Maf, Platonic and Deeptrunk 79, the EP kicks off with ‘Non Typical’, a grainy, yet soulful, raw production, similar to the likes of Wu-Tang, returning to bring fear to the inferior competition, showing them what real Hip Hop is, and rhyming about his originality, ever-growing wisdom on track as well as evolution as an artist, and exposing fake Hip Hop. Stakka Lyrics’ delivery is raw and rugged already, and his lyricism is gully and twisted.

The production, even from differing producers, is similar in sound whilst being fresh and standing out, allowing the mixtape to run smoothly and coherently, Termite for instance serves up a chugging Hip Hop instrumental for ‘Enchilada’ which features fellow Hip Hop rapper Xidus Pain. Stakka and Xidus rhyme effortlessly over the beat, juggling the flows terrifically over a beat which had trumpets playing as part of the melody in a marching band fashion. Another track produced by Termite is ‘NWL’ or No White Lines, an atmospheric beat, with abrupt trumpet instrumentals, steadyily playing strings, and a beat pattern reminiscent of 90s Hip Hop from the East Coast. Stakka Lyrics’ content on this track depicts his open mind, letting you take in his music without being influenced, rhyming about keeping an open mind and focusing on your dreams, staying away from drugs and violence. Wonderful vibes from this track, nostalgic and takes you back to the golden era of Hip Hop.

‘Circuits Closed’ produced by Platonic, features a thumping bassline, and eerie strings, with a hard hitting beat, as Stakka kicks top-notch lyrics, flowing superbly, making rapping seem easy compared to how many other’s rappers make it look, taking a stand in the Hip Hop scene, not letting anyone sway him from his musical ambitions. ‘Father Styles’ is a jazzy Hip Hop track, taking the Hip Hop scene as his own house, letting these other emcee’s that they have to play by the rules, stating that he is the father of flows, and that his lyrics are just his own observations and of which try to teach and help the listener. The last track called ‘Letter to the Wind’ is a more deeper and meaningful song, in which Stakka Lyrics addresses the absence of his brother, seeming like a stranger that doesn’t talk to him when he comes around, reflecting on his brother starting the Cambridge Hip Hop scene, wishing that they could be like the old days, and paying his dues to his brother who helped influence and show him the Hip Hop techniques.
