Akira The Don aka Splash God releases his anticipated GOTHWAVE Ep in time for Halloween, featuring four explosive Hip Hop/Rap/Trap tunes. Akira The Don and Big Narstie feature on ‘BAD’, reviving MJ from beyond, both spitting evil lyrics over the trapesque, grimy beat which features scary, eerie bells. The synths are West-Coast themed, possibly an nod to Los Angeles where Akira now resides. ‘Spooky Scary Skeletons’ is another West-Coast style track, a slapping Hip Hop track that reminds me somewhat of the likes of Dr. Dre, but yet with a build-up in the beat like many Electronic Dance tracks. Featuring minimal vocals except for the vocals on the hook, Akira takes you on a ride where you shall envision scary skeletons and creepy zombie monsters. ‘Stranger Things’ is Akira The Don’s remix to the soundtrack of the highly popular, thrilling Netflix science-fiction horror series. The result is a heart-beating, ambient-come-electronic remix featuring trap elements. The final track is named ‘Black Mass’, and this is the come down from all the fear of the previous three tracks. Just like the rest of the Ep, you can just space out and chill to this. All the production is ambient with futuristic synths, and touches of paranormal vibes thrown in. A great project from Akira The Don, recorded at Don Studios LA, which has a running theme throughout. I’ll certainly be listening to this over Halloween, and beyond for that matter.
