BackRoad Gee performs ‘Fear Nuttin’ | The Agenda Live
2020 was a stand out year for rising London-raised Congalese star Backroad Gee, a Drill-Grime hybrid, who has collaborated with Pa Salieu and JME. Having kick-started last year with ‘Party Popper’, that garnered an all-star remix with Ambush and Pa Salieu, which sits on over 2 million views on YouTube. He followed up with seven-track EP ‘Mukta Vs Mukta’, a feature on Pa Salieu’s breakout track ‘My Family’, and then a link up with JME and Lethal Bizzle for ‘Enough Is Enough’.
So far this year, BRG has released several singles, most notably ‘Take Time’, a slow jam that is a stark contrast to the ‘Mukta Vs Mukta’ EP which was brimming with high-energy, rapid bars and gritty productions. ‘A YO’ featuring BG and TizzTrap was a fire Drill banger, revisiting the earlier sound, whilst ‘Ready Or Not’ featuring Nissi and ‘Bad Mind’ have been smooth, Dancehall-influenced tracks rich in infectious melodies. Backroad Gee is also hot off the back of a collabo with Dappy and M24 on ‘Antigua’.
Now Backroad Gee has teamed up with Apple Music, to deliver a live performance of ‘Fear Nuttin’ for The Agenda Live, from his long awaited debut mixtape ‘Reporting Live (From the Back of the Roads)’. Apple Music’s video series shines light on Black British music and it’s most promising, prodigious talents. Just when you think Backroad Gee can’t better himself he does. The video kicks off with an intense cinematic prologue before he launches into a scorching performance, high in energy and gritty bars. A fearless Backroad Gee puts his faith in his God, as he contemplates what his life was like on the come up, having his own principals and morals deemed as fair. As Backroad Gee declares, “Boys will be boys and men will be men”. He continues, “But it’s up to you to seperate the boys from men”. This track shows Backroad Gee’s character, handling his business like a man.
The visuals are from fast-rising Brtish-Nigerian director Femi Ladi, hypnotic, cinematic, with an energetic performance from BRG, surrounded by his guys in a gritty warehouse location.
