“Sometimes in life events take place where we are challenged with plenty of questions. Of all the questions we might want to ask, uncertainty can shed light onto our deepest fears. US Rapper Billy Ivan, hailing from Staten Island, New York, releases a brand music video for his latest single entitled “Asking”, which features him rhyming over a crisp sounding atmospheric Hip Hop production by niteFLIX, and taken from ‘The Compilation Tape’. The basis for the song is Billy Ivan rhyming about the times when you have so many questions to ask when you hit hard times, even though the answers may show your fears. In his lyrics, Billy deals with poverty, growing up and grinding to get his own skrilla, following his feelings even though he may feel ashamed and revealing in his bars that he doesn’t trust a hoe. The second verse sees Billy giving his own perspective on things from truth and lies, holding all of the responsibility on your shoulders to push your team to success. The hook is superbly written and crafted by Billy, being a big part of the song and the narrative, and Billy Ivan spits incredibly thought provoking lyrics, intricately wrote, and he flows effortlessly, with such conviction and fire in his delivery. Watch out for Billy Ivan in the future, an underground rapper soon to become a mainstream mainstay. The music video, which is directed by Billy himself, features captivating lip-synced performance by Billy, as well as cinematic, picturesque shots of New York City, Billy taking in his surroundings, from every day life, pedestrians going about their day, nature and weather, and tourist attractions and iconic places. The editing techniques are incredible, with stop motion effects, moving time forward rapidly, as well as the cutting of shots is smooth flowing.
