English-born, Aussie-raised Singer/Songwriter Daisy Hicks “has reached new heights” with her first single ‘French Café’, taken from her new album. Daisy’s new single is Jazz-inspired, no surprise being that she is the daughter of legendary jazz drummer Tony Hicks, and also related to recording artist Chris Rea. The song’s lyrics explore the story of love between two strangers in a French Café. Daisy Hicks has released three separate videos for three different versions of the song, the original a slow and smooth Jazz number, performed on Elton John’s old piano from his house in Beverly Hills and recorded in Berry House Studios in the UK. Met Life (Jon Pearn and Michael Gray) remix the single for a more upbeat, uplifting Soul version, whilst the St Tropez radio edit will transport you to the streets of France with a very French-esque sound that will have you falling in love with the track. Regardless of the mood of the song, the theme remains about love and set in France, but Daisy Hicks adapts to each version.
Daisy herself was classically trained and began her career in Jazz, but decided to branch out from her roots to explore her musical horizons, and at the age of 19, she was signed to Concept Music, releasing her debut album “Mistress”. This album broke in the UK, Japan and European markets with radio play on the likes of KISS, Radio 1 and Capitol.
Daisy Hicks has collaborated internationally writing with Hicks didn’t stop there and has collaborated internationally, writing with Aron Friedman (Backstreet Boys,Take That), Stefan Örn (co-wrote 2011 Eurovision winner, Anders Bagge, Westlife), Jeff Franzel (Josh Groban, Taylor Dayne), Malcolm Maddock (James Brown, Lionel Ritchie) and worked with producers Matt Fell (multi-CMAA award winner, Sara Storer, Shane Nicholson), Tim Laws (Daryl Hall, Gabrielle, Lighthouse Family) and Pete Craigie (Billy Ocean, Seth Lakeman) to name a few.
Daisy’s vocals aren’t the only thing to be soaring high, she also had her track ‘So Much More Than Love’ featured on the hit US TV series ‘Pretty Little Liars’. The Elton John piano that Daisy’s new single was recorded on, now resides in Curtis Schwartz’ Berry House Studios, the same studio that her father recorded at on many occasions. Having lost her dad 10 years ago, Hicks understandably found the recording process quite emotional.
