Eddie Murphy, comedian, actor, TV personality and well… erm… Donkey, launches his music career with the 1^st official Video taken from upcoming album “9”. Not so surprising to hear him sing well, as I have heard him in a Saturday Night Live sketch with Stevie Wonder and he performed a few lines from My Cherie Amore. I’m also sure I remember Eddie singing in various parts from his blockbusting films over the years. So no, not surprising at all, what pleasantly surprised me was the quality of the music on display hear and particularly the authenticity of the great Reggae music Eddie and his band recorded. Red Light is a great song, beautiful meaning and emotionally charged while being a toe tapper also, top music. Throw in a Snoop Do… Lion verse and you have a hit on your hands, (though it would have been nice to hear a verse from an authentic reggae/dancehall/rap artist). Saying that Eddie has proven his versatility as a performer and all round artist, becoming more than a triple threat with competent guitar skills to boot. Looks like Murphy is having fun with it, and why not. No mid life crisis here, nor desperate attempt to live out a fantasy career, just great music, with an old skool vibe but, modern feel.
