From London to Los Angeles, UK R&B Singer/Songwriter sensation Ella Mai, who is signed to to American DJ/Producer DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers Record Label, teams up with the Producer for her debut EP “Time”. The EP depicts from song to song Ella Mai’s breakup in relationships, from ‘Switch Sider’ on which Ella stands by her man no matter what, to ‘She Don’t’ where she keeps things moving and enjoying herself whilst ignoring her exes calls, Ella delivers the ultimate experience for any strong-minded, independent woman that is may be dealing with their own troubles in love. Ella Mai’s vocal range and harmonious capabilities are astounding, and she is able to go from hard hitting trapesque R&B beats like ‘Switch Sider’ or ‘Old Dog, New Bitch’ to a more silk-like, smooth production like ‘She Don’t’ or strings-laden West Coast style R&B instrumental with ‘One Day’. Ella Mai collaborates with Hip Hop and R&B artist Ty Dolla $ign on one of the hit singles from EP, ‘She Don’t’, with both delivering sleek, melodious vocals on a dream-like beat, with Ty offering the man’s apologetic perspective on the relationship that fell apart. The flow of the hook is such that it is rather catchy. The same can be said for ‘Don’t Want You’, a track that takes the listener on a rollercoaster of emotions. Ella Mai sings in deep, dulcet tones on a ground down, sauntering R&B beat that turns in to a more upbeat rhythm on the chorus, where her vocals are more uplifting. The lyrics depict a sorrowful side to Ella as she rhymes about lessons learnt in her relationship, where as the chorus sees her picking herself up and quickly moving on. Ella Mai has the magnificent ability of manipulating the mood of the track with harmonious vocals that have range. The “Time” EP only depicts one aspect of Ella Mai’s life, with her already having laid out many of her feelings. We are eager to hear more from Ella Mai in the future as she is an immense talent, and awesome that she is holding the banner or the UK, hopefully soon to be renowned internationally and globally.
