UK Hip Hop artist Imma34, a self-confessed comedian and rapper, releases his new mixtape ‘BubbleGum AlleY PopSTarS’ via his bandcamp. The second mixtape within a week, the mixtape starts off with a song called ‘Chocolate Lab’, tackling the issue of racial prejudice and hate. A great kick off to the mixtape, featuring soulful samples on the track. ‘Unique Streets’ sees Imma jump on a jazzy boom-bap production, featuring some crude lyrics that bring to mind Professor Green. ‘Rhymes For The Summer’ is a favourite of mine, on which Imma rhymes on a chilled out Hip Hop beat, delivering a vivid description of his idea of a summer in London City. ‘Hunger Chasing’ sees Imma sample Adele’s Chasing Pavements. Imma links up with Deo De Madman on a song called ‘Esotericities’. The pair spit over a different sounding beat, a thumping wavering beat, as both spit raw lyrics on a late night vibe. Another rapper that Imma collaborates with is Ability MC on a track entitled ‘Deeper Meaning’, yet again sampling a familiar song, as both convey they’re search for deeper meaning. Imma gives you another freestyle this time with ‘iLL Freestyle’, rapping over a fiery Hip Hop beat, displaying heavy forceful flows.
Imma’s versatility really shows on this mixtape, rhyming over a varied selection of beats, from soulful to raw sounding Hip Hip beats or boom bap, even an acoustic, he also samples a lot more on this one, and raps on a few well known beats, including Jay Electronica’s Exhibit A. Imma’s style is seeming a lot more like the likes of Mike Skinner/The Streets, with his poetic rhymes, sometimes displaying a unique form of rhyming patterns and wordplay.
