Jay Carteré recently dropped a remix of Arcade Crossfire’s ‘Smashing’, taking the original which is an immense, bass-rich, lashing dubstep production, packed with whirring and shattering sfx to boot, and making it in to a fully-fledged song. Jay Carteré is one for introducing metaphors in to his lyricism, and this is no different as the chorus rounds up the tracks subject, the time in Jay’s life that he has hit a glass ceiling. Jay delivers lyrics that portray his on-going battle between allocating most of his time and putting all of his efforts in to his music, and dealing with the constant pressure of those around him to get a ‘regular’ job, and as a student, he has faced with university matters, including the urge to spend his uni loan on and skipping assignments to produce music. Jay Carteré delivers a banger, his vocals are fitting of the production, and fit around the beat like a glove, with Jay spitting bars that are insightful and convey a common crossroad which many musicians may face in their early careers.
