Kritz93 – Interview

Tell us a bit about yourself and describe your sound?

I’m Kritz93 from East London my current style of music is melodic rap but I don’t think I can be placed in just one box I think I bounce in and between boxes if I’m being honest.

How did you first get into music and who influenced/encouraged you?

I first got into music as a child playing around with my mates by freestyling and I received good feedback from this so it made me take it more seriously. What mainly influenced me is the way other artists can express themselves through their music and the confidence they show when performing. After seeing this I knew I wanted to do the same.

Can you give us an insight into the inspiration behind your lyrics. And how certain beats get selected?

Just all depends how I’m feeling at the time if I’m being honest as I try to keep it as real as possible. I just want to tell my current story through with my lyrics and the beat has to go along with the lyrics I’m using so I’d say it depends on my current situation and mood.

On your latest track ‘Woah’, you team up with E. Mak. How did you both come to collaborate and tell us about the track?

Yh me and E. Mak have worked previously before so the chemistry was already there, he shouted me to come studio, played a couple beats and the Woah beat stood out to me the most. At that time I noticed people reaching out to me that didn’t really reach out to me before which I led me to write the hook of Woah ‘where was you when I was low’.

2017 was a busy year for you, featuring on DJ P Montana’s ‘G’s Dem’, and recording new music, videos and freestyles. As well as the work rate, how else do you think you stand out from the rest?

I think I’m consistent with quality whether it’s an afroswing melodic vibe or a rap vibe I try to deliver and connect with my listeners as much as possible. And I think I’m very versatile when it comes to music.

With all of these releases, freestyles and bars, can we expect an EP/Mixtape from you this year?

Yh man that’s the plan, just have to do a couple things before but yh definitely if everything goes to plan you can expect a body of work from me at the end of the year.

What artists would you like to work with more or for the first time this year and beyond?

I’d happily work with the people I’ve worked with before, like E. Mak and in the future I’d love to work with One Acen, Not3s and Wretch 32. I like their styles think they’re good at what they do.

Have you got any highlights/stand out moments so far in your career?

Performing in front of 5000 people at carnival was definitely a highlight for me and people actually knowing my song while I was performing. That was a vibe. Also randomly switching on the radio and hearing my tune being played on daytime commercial radio was a first for me, a feeling that I want to be able to get used to.

With a very successful single and a tremendous buzz, how are you going to build on that, what would you like to achieve this year?

I’m just going to keep out at it, keep music in people’s ears and keep my name in peoples mouths. I’m coming for everything this year, I want to top the charts, I want the biggest song in the country I just want it all tbh.

Where can we find you and your music online?
