LemziFreeBies Vol 3 It's Whatever

UK artist Lemzi recently released the third installment of his LemziFreeBies mixtape series “LemziFreeBies Vol 3: It’s Whatever”. Available for free download below, the mixtape features 18 solid tracks from the Hip Hop lyricist, including two bonus tracks. From first taking in the production from the likes of Kaos the Infinite, Foreign Beggars, BeastMan, Easy Mo Bee and many more, this is a soulfully driven mixtape mixed with the sound of 90’s era Brooklyn Hip Hop, with many features alongside Lemzi including Dazzle, Bamo, Chase MC, Luke Papini and much more. Lemzi’s lyrical content is dictated by life, emotions, love and relationships, and music but not constrained by those subjects by a long chalk.

Even from the first track “It’s Whatever”, I can guess that Lemzi has a laid back approach with the flow, this particular track though sees him evaluating how far he has come in the last few years, how he has progressed musically, as well as proving doubters wrong. Moving on to the second track which is one of my favourite tracks, called “Push, Push, Push”, Lemzi lets loose with the flow as he kicks rhymes over a Freddie Joachim beat, this tune is a bit of a motivational and inspirational anthem for us all, telling us we should do the best we can, as Lemzi draws from examples such as Mozart, Nas, and even Uni students and sportsman for inspiration to push with his dreams.

Many of personal favourites on this mixtape are when Lemzi is dropping conscious lyrics, bars that are motivational, or inspirational, such as “Excel” featuring Dazzle, in which they address fakes and snakes, and the mind state the young generation are stuck in, telling the brothers to help each other, support each other in what ever we do. Dazzle enlightens us on his own life experiences, trouble with the law, witnessing violenmce daily, keeping a positive focus on his music all the time. Message! Don’t conform to stereotypes. Great flows from rapper here, even Lemzi double timing.

Another impressive track is an acoustic Hip Hop production by “Bruce Wayne” for the track called “Can You Hear Me?” featuring singer Luke Papini for this emotionally charged track in which Lemzi pours out his feelings, the dealing with break ups, unfaithfulness in a relationship, putting all of his emotions in to track from sadness to anger. Luke Papini brings an Urban vibe to the track on the hook, with amazing vocals, connecting with the song, and letting his voice just flow freely, and his harmonising adlibs are quite chilling.

A couple of more uplifting tracks that caught my attention are “Start From Now” featuring a packed line up of Inferno, Vigilance, Dame Deadz and Ridez, and “Going Back To Manny” featuring Bamo. The former features all five rappers, hot bars, all laying down strong bars, making a statement to the rap game, that from now they will persuit their goals, stepping over other rappers, controlling their own destinies, as they try to build a buzz for themselves. A range of styles on showcase, all have meandering flows, deliveries are fantastic and polished, but all stand out. This track is fire! The latter track features Manchester artist Bamo, produced by JK as Lemzi lends from The Notorious B.I.G’s “Going Back To Cali” for the hook, and follows Lemzi as he goes to Manny, linking up with Bamo, rhyming about living as a Northerner, feeling right at home, and even though it may be rainy there, but the warmth comes from the good times, smoking and drinking alcohol. So much to do in Manny! Bamo cuts in with Lemzi going back to back, on the mobile, both possessing flows even Biggie would be proud of, spitting with a swagger.
