‘LIGHT WORK’ – MC Midas – Hip Hop Album 2014
All rounded MC Midas recently took to soundcloud to release a brand new album for 2014, entitled ‘Light Work’, which is a Hip Hop album, a different vibe from Garage, or even Dubstep, Grime and RnB which he is known to get busy on. This album features artists such as Hyperactive, Snoopa and many more, and with production from the likes of Chris Wheeler, Clyde Strokes, A2DJ to name a few.
The album opens up with ‘Let Me Flow’, featuring Hyperactive, a Trap influenced Hip Hop beat, both ripping it with fast paced flow and lyricism, the lyrics depicting their superior skills, killing it with punchlines and metaphors, Midas especially going in with wordplay, and cheeky confidence in his delivery. ‘All I Know’ is yet another Trap vibe, Midas rhyming about the feeling that he hasn’t lost it yet, and that he can still push on, not stop with his music aspirations. MC Midas showcases his singing style and song writing skills on this track, on the chorus on which he lays down a smooth sing song style hook.
Fun lyricism is the way forward on the fun and bubbly, funky ‘Get Up’, on which MC Midas sharpens his mic skills again, with entertaining lyrics, once again with a confidence in his delivery, reminiscing on days of past, from how he was at school to rap history, in contrast to where he is now, able to rock the mic, with captivating, infectious flows, catchy punchlines, and getting the listeners up on their feet.
MC Midas also drops a few remixes on this album, including Obie Trice’s ‘The Set Up’ which features King L and Snoopa, and called ‘Don’t Know Why’, a remix of Eve’s ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ called Friends Like These’. The first track, ‘Don’t Know Why’ features all three mc’s unleashing deadly wordplay and lyricism on competition and haters, whilst ‘Friends Like These’ features MC Midas addressing friends who are no longer around, back stabbers, and friends getting addicted to drugs, Midas shrugging it off in his lyrics as how things go, just letting them know he had their back. On this short but brilliantly wrote song, Midas crams in one hell of a hook with heart felt lyricism and delivery which is on point.
MC Midas switches up the vibes once again on ‘You Should Know, featuring RnB singer Lindsey Penton on the hook of an RnB production, the lyricism depicting a relationship in which both the woman and the guy know there is some sort of feelings towards each other, Midas expressing that he just needs a girl that will stay, and showing that he is not like all of the other guys, and alos revealing how he thinks she is the woman of his dreams, from her figure to her personality. Lindsey delivers a smooth, soothing hook, singing in a low down, amazing voice.
Midas turns it around and brings a soulfulness with ‘Kick Back’, a boom bap style production by Chris Wheeler, with gospel style sampling, and takes you back to the old school with the vibes,as Midas spits laid back bars. ‘Tru North’ is yet another soulful track, this time by Lone Drum, a love song from the stance of the guy who clasps eyes on the girl of his dreams, rhyming about how she makes him feel, feeling lost without her.
The album is rounded off with MC Midas’ poignant track and tribute for his close friend MC Sparks, with melodic remix/cover of Marques Houston’s ‘Clubbin’, paying respect to him as a music colleague as well as a close friend, and revealing projects that they were working on. MC Midas connects with the emotion that he no doubtfully felt whilst writing this, and is a nice ode to Sparks.
Grab your copy of Midas’ new album ‘Light Work’, which is certainly that for this MC, a veteran in the UK scene, effortlessly switching his style up all of the time, with infectious flows, confidence, killer wordplay, fun lyricism, and also can turn it around and drop venom, or potent or serious bars, even heartfelt ones. The vibes from this mixtape vary also, while it sticks it mainly to Hip Hop, it borders on Trap, RnB and Soulful Hip Hop.
