Little Simz – AGE 101: DROP 4
Little Simz is back with the fourth instalment of the Age 101 EP series, which is a prelude to her debut LP out very soon. Age 101 Drop 4 features seven tunes, mostly hard hitting Trap productions, as she takes you on a spiritual, outer world journey with like tracks like the slow jam ‘Guess Who’ featuring Tilla, Josh Arcé & Chuck20, as they portray themselves as aliens in a space age, delivering rapid flows. ‘Is This Freedom?’ is a hard hitting Trap beat with Simz questioning what freedom is to her, and having the urge to be left to her own devices. ‘Don’t Ruin It’ features hot-tempered lyrics from Little Simz on a booming Trap beat, rhyming about her feared music, and addressing those hating on her downfall. Little Simz juggles the flows terrifically on this track. In contrast, ‘Heart Said’ featuring Tiffany Gouché is a twinkling yet subtly pounding beat, on which Simz laces the instrumental with her feelings for her man, as she rhymes about treasured moments, spiritual healings and shared journeys. Tiffany’s vocals blend in to the beat fantastically with a floaty feeling as she superbly vocalizes. ‘Top Down’ is a trippy kind of tune featuring Kent Jamz over a slowly ticking Hip Hop instrumental, with Simz talking of escaping foolishness, going around the world, smoking weed and cruising, finding herself spiritually and finally feeling lonely enough to return home. ‘Mist’ is an ambient production featuring Tilla once again in which she expresses her dis-likening of her life as she tries to find happiness through grinding every day of the week to better her life, as she faces her fears head on as well. Tilla lends amazing, lethargic singing vocals on this track. The final track ‘Sit Tight’ features lyrics from Little Simz where she spits about changes of faces, materialistic lifestyles and blowing money on lavish things, as she unveils the problems with fame. Little Simz displays a matured lyrical side to her as she delivers conscious lyrics on each and every song on this release, lyrics never to be taken at face value it seems, and her flows and delivery are top-notch, as she switches effortlessly between calm and refrained delivery and tends to explode in to a torrent of fast-paced spitting.
