Maxi Millz: BrassHouse Presents
Rising online platform BrassHouse recently unveiled the first episode of their fresh, unique music series, BrassHouse Presents, which serves as a platform for some of our favourite British musicians to perform live. However, the series stands out for the innovative live experience of UK Urban British music, having each upcoming artist perform along with a live 10-piece band.
Episode 1 features breakthrough R&B sensation Maxi Millz, performing four tracks, including a cover song, in front of a live audience, ‘Painted Face’, ‘Danny Ocean’ and ‘Same Old Problems’, and a superb cover of ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’, which he instills his own style and sound on. Proving beyond a doubt that he really is the R&B Prince of West London, Maxi delivers regal live brass renditions of his tracks, displaying silky, smooth vocals and thought-provoking lyricism with laid-back, chilled vibes, taking it old school with the crooner style.
Each episode is filmed at the iconic Electric Cinema on Portobello Road in London, with BraasHouse having created a nostalgic and picturesque music series that captures the best of British music through a divine framework. Set to feature a boast-worthy lineup of artists for season 1 including Shaybo, Pa Salieu, Miraa May, Kojey Radical, Knucks, Raye, Etta Bond, Col3trane, and of course R&B crooner Maxi Millz graced the stage for the first episode. Each artist performs in front of a live audience, and given a 4-song set consisting of 3 live brass renditions of their own songs, plus a cover chosen by themselves.
Founded by George Davis, the Creative Director of BrassHouse, in partnership with Louis Savage (Disturbing London Records, Sony ATV, Wray & Nephew/Magnum) the Business Director of BrassHouse, the pair have created a never seen before content series that is the perfect fit for any music consumer. Whether you are looking for a slice of escapism from the comfort of your own home, or an avid gig-goer, ‘BrassHouse Presents’ enables your mind to wonder in a dream-like utopia for 15 minutes whilst showcasing an array of quality talent.
Speaking on the concept behind BrassHouse, the founder and Creative Director George Davis explains, “I grew up like most kids of my generation watching music videos on TV; Channel U, MTV Base. One day I watched an episode of MTV ‘Making the Video’ with N.E.R.D for their track ‘Rockstar’ and decided that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up. I started making music videos as a teenager before transitioning into photography and fashion, shooting for brands such as Trapstar, DR Martens and Kurt Geiger, and also becoming the arts director of Dark Circle Clothing. As part of that creative journey, I was inspired along the way by the likes of SBTV who gave people of my culture, in our country a platform, all from a YouTube channel. More recently platforms like Tiny Desk and COLORS have really caught my attention, but I always noticed that the UK didn’t really have an equivalent, so the idea has always been a seed in the back of my mind. The final realisation that I needed to bring a live platform to fruition was when I went to a bar in Birmingham called the Lord Clifton, a New Orleans brass band rendition of ‘Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe’ by Kendrick Lamar was playing and just like that BrassHouse was born.”
As is the case with many business ventures, the stars have had to align to bring the BrassHouse concept to life, as George continues, “I was introduced to my business partner Louis Savage by our mutual friend Jevon because he was looking for art direction and photography for an artist he was managing. I told Louis about the idea, he loved it and said he could help me bring it to life. BrassHouse is my direct contribution and thank you to the culture that has given me so much.”
With the aim to inspire viewers whilst streaming inspiration from a multitude of different creative outlets including fashion, photography, film, and life itself, it is the teams desire to create a greater platform that embodies a deeper perception lies at the forefront of BrassHouse.
