Maxsta & Brotherhood – A12 Link Up

Maxsta and Brotherhood, from East London and Ipswich respectively, team up for their long awaited and anticipated joint E.P ‘A12 Link Up’. This release features lead singles ‘New MC’s’,a Maxsta solo packed with energetic flows, produced by Rapid and differentiating Maxsta from the current wave of mc’s. Also included are ‘Own Advice’, an introspective Rap-come-Grime track depicting the frequent pressure they refuse to buckle under. The third single is called ‘Things Change’, the latest single to have a music video filmed for. This features the three mc’s spitting over yet another slow Grime production, as Maxsta, Blaze and Menace reflect on the changes in their life, from running with different circles to fixing up their motives for making music.
Among other tracks, you have ‘Grateful’, featuring humbling lyricism from the three as they recognise how blessed they are compared to many, yet teaching many of us that we too could be in worse positions. ‘Fire Back’ features Brotherhood aka Menace and Blaze tear up a bass-heavy Grime beat, firing shots at a new wave of mc’s with no purpose other than materialistic goals and no skill. ‘My Own’ sees the mc’s fired up once again by the feeling of not having the recognition they deserve, progressing on their own in life, taking chances when they come. Menace and Blaze deliver an excellently delivered chorus, a mix of rapid rap and smooth singing vocals. The final track, ‘I’m Nice’, features yet more lyricism that portrays the three musicians as normal guys that haven’t obtained wealth yet but are working on things and living comfortably.
The ‘A12 Link Up’ EP features some brilliant introspective tracks from Maxsta and Brotherhood, that portrays them as truly humble musicians, and you can’t help but relate to their trials and tribulations through life. As well as some profound lyricism from the three, Maxsta and Brotherhood have their own track apiece that they display another dimension of their arsenal with ‘New MC’s’ and ‘Fire Back’. The production suits their flow and delivery, whether they are double-timing on slowed up beats or firing rapidly on up-tempo grime instrumentals, the energy is there. Overall, this link up was a success and we would certainly like to here more from this trio in the future.
