Two of Windy City’s finest, R&B Singer Jeremih and Chance The Rapper, both Chicago natives, dropped a gift from them to us under the Christmas tree this year, an early Xmas present no less! The first release from both Jeremih and Chance, following Late Nights: Europe and Coloring Book respectively, Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama features 9 festive tracks to get you in the mood for December 25th, and with production from Zaytoven, Bongo The Drum Gahd, and more, there is a riff sample from The Jackson 5’s I Want You Back on ‘Stranger At The Table’, also an anthem-worthy trap banger from Chance on ‘I Shoulda Left You’ which features Lud Foe and produced by Zaytoven. Comedian Hannibal Buress is a feature on ‘All The Way’ festive-themed track sampling A Christmas Story, whilst ‘Snowed In’ is a warming love song for those cold days when you are either snowed in or under like two blankets AND two sweaters! Other stocking fillers on the album include ‘The Tragedy’ featuring Noname, the slow grinder ‘I’m Your Santa’ and ‘Chi Town Christmas’ dedicated to Chicago, just like the project, and is a nice depiction of how the Christmas period is like in the Windy City. Chance The Rapper gets to rapping over another Christmas-y instrumental featuring Jeremih’s vocals making him sound like a one-man barbershop quartet. Chance even references a Christmas favourite, My Favorite Things.
