East London Rapper/Producer Nick Black releases the second single from his forthcoming mixtape ‘SMBS’ (Select Music By Steering), out on 1st June 2015. The track is called ‘Isaac Boyz’ and is set to be the intro to the mixtape, opening and introducing the impending dark production. This particular track features a sample of Isaac Hayes’ ‘Hung Up On My Baby’, also used by Geto Boys’ ‘Mind Playing Tricks On Me’. The sample is made eerie by the dark, thumping Hip Hop beat and tone of the synths, and reminds me to an extent of Sway and DJ Wonder’s ‘Call My Name’. Nick Black depicts himself as mysterious figure lurking in the dark, spiraling out of control, meeting many characters on his trip, a ride around town at night serving to his clients, only made more interesting by Nick’s compelling story telling and unique, imaginative descriptions. Nick Black’s delivery is hard hitting with his voice rough, adding to the dark vibe, but yet he switches up the flows slightly, especially on the second verse.
