After years on the Jersey underground circuit the OHGEEZ, Piff James (WRC/Jumpoff, OUTSIDAZ/152 Gang, Animal Crackas) and FRD FRLN (pronounced Ford Fairlane…152 Gang), have dropped a video for their debut single, ‘HalfBagOfMollie’, from their upcoming project, “Piff James & FRD FRLN Present: The Otha Guyz…”. The duo return to boom bap, but with an update, kicking hard-edged rhymes over the pounding, melodic and soulfully sampled instrumental, the dope bars contain lines from Piff James and FRD FRLN that take shots at other rappers and artists, and convey the pair’s hoodlum attitude and showcase their lyrical prowess and smooth flows. The video is from Secret Society Motion Pictures’ very own Nimi Hendrix, and depicts the two as homeless (presumably) guys who stumble upon a suitcase, containing a bag of mollie, and proceed to go looting and scavenging in trash, stealing clothes and liquor and ending in a party in the night around a fire. The video may be depicting America’s problems with the homeless and poverty, or it may be a dig at rappers that front with all their riches and may not have the talent, and may not necessarily have the money they portray they have. Nevertheless, Piff James and FRD FRLN showcase their comedic side with a funny reference to the Friday film at the beginning.
