Review – Natz – Never Say Never

Natz Review Chart

Death Kiss Media Comments:

London Rap/Hip Hop artist Natz has released the follow up to his debut mixtape “N.A.S.A (Not Average Strictly Ambitious)”, and has been a year in the making, and here it is, the title is ‘Never Say Never’ and is full of both motivational and inspirational music, which is instant music to my ears as it is a fresh approach to some of the Street Rapper style that has really emerged in the last few years. Natz goes at this mixtape from a solo stance, only collaborating with Lyrical G, and when both link up, they make some truly motivating, fun music to listen to.

Natz showcases his raw talent for lyricism, and flowing real nice on some of the tracks, “About Me”, “Fate”, and “Kick Back” to name a few. He has got the flow on lock and on point, and switches up the flow at the right moments, keeping your attention all the while. His lyrics boast of how good he is, using metaphors to get across his messages. He spits about life, music and just about anything, and each track differs with the subject, proving that he can rap about anything, but the metaphors are still there, and he doesn’t lose the strength for that.

Apart from a couple of tracks, such as “Really Want Me” produced by Jungle Beats, Trae The Truth’s “I’m On”, and “Real Talk”, there is a lot of quality, low key production on this project, and takes it back to Hip Hop, rather than the Trap Beats that are creeping in to the Rap Scene lately. Natz picks beats that support his lyrical style, not what is hot but what he most probably feels personally. Some of my favourites beats chosen by Natz include “About Me”, “Fate”, “Rise Up” and “Kick Back”.

Natz at times throws in choruses in to each song but some of them don’t seem to strong, and you are just waiting for the next verse to drop He uses breaks at times, but the writing and song craft seems scattered, and there is no particular formula to his song writing. This mixtape therefore serves as a project to show case his talent, and to offload new bars and fire.

Natz doesn’t come with a lot of remixes on this project, rather bringing his own twist to most of the tracks, and the CD stands out for its fresh sound, and originality in the lyricism, and concept on each track. Natz makes positive music, and that comes across in the lyrics.

The artwork is simple, and includes the title and artist name, and while the CD may have branding and artist details on the back, the digital version just includes the cover, which only gives away the name of the artist and project name.

FINAL THOUGHT

GET A 9 TO 5

GO BACK TO DRAWING BOARD

• SHOWING POTENTIAL – Natz is showing real potential with his follow up mixtape, but there is still room for a bit of improvement. He has got the bars, and the flow, but if song craft could be improved, and if the recording quality improves, he would be well on his way to becoming the next big thing in the UK Rap scene.

SUPER DUPER STAR

STAND OUT TRACKS:

About Me” – This track shows what Natz is about musically, and is one of the strongest tracks, with a great beat chosen, his lyricism and flow is strongest, and the chorus isn’t bad either, and he definitely makes a statement of what he is in the scene for.

Fate” – Natz spits about some moments in his life on a nice Hip Hop beat, showcasing his ability to incorparate real life stories in to his lyrics. The chorus sees Natz trying to sing, which isn’t the best move, but as a he is a rapper first and foremost, the verses speak for themselves.

I’m On” – This is an alright remix of Trae The Truth’s “I’m On”, and Natz sprays pure fire over the beat, and is possibly him at his strongest lyrically, just offloading bar after bar filled with masterful wordplay and nice flow. Truly a banger!

Kick Back” – A nice, positive and motivational vibe to this one, with a Jazz and Blues type feel to it, and features Natz spitting rapid fire on the beat, and laying down singing vocals which I actually quite like, Natz is just having fun with it, and this makes for a good chiller.
