Rosca – Mortal Kombat

In time for Halloween season, Kinshasa-born and London residing talent Rosca comes through with a brand new release in the form of the eerie street heater ‘Mortal Kombat’.

Representing for the underdogs, Rosca isn’t one to shy away from combat, standing and fighting for social justice and those who believe their voice isn’t heard. ‘Mortal Kombat’ embodies that exact sentiment. Produced by FirstClass, Rosca delivers potent bars in a gruff tone, over a dark, menacing Drill beat, showing his lyrical prowess and wordplay ability from the off, with an impactful and infectious hook, “All this talking man better stop that / Hmmm, finish mortal kombat / I got a young boy doing Mbappe / Can’t wait till he signs that contract”.

The accompanying visuals compliment the dark vibe of the track, and see Rosca standing in front of a plain backdrop, along with energetic surge of flashing lights, allowing the talented artist to deliver a performance that combines with subtitles to really accentuate his pen game and push it to centre stage. ‘Mortal Kombat’ serves as Rosca’s fourth release this year, and follows up the arrival of ‘Bankroll’ alongside 4evasiege and Deefundo, putting Rosca in a strong position to cement his name amongst the best up-and-comers in Black British Music.

Having grown up in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rosca spent a part of his upbringing in a range of refugee camps in and around Congo, Nigeria and Benin, before the British Red Cross later reunited him with his family and relocated them to the UK. Rosca didn’t find it easy settling in London, having ti struggle through various trials and tribulations, forming a brotherhood with Jack Merrit, a victim of the last London Bridge attack who worked for a prison education organization called Learning Together.

Drawn to music from a young age, Rosca grew up listening to the likes of Papa Wemba, Nas and Biggie, before being introduced to UK hit makers Stormzy and Dave, both of whom played a part in helping Rosca shape his sound today. Rosca frequently switches between French and Lingala, setting himself apart from others in the scene with a genre-defying wave, and is most definitely a promising talent of the future. He has already gained global recognition (This Morning, Sky News, BBC Radio London, ITV London News, etc) from his charity single ‘Jack’, and is primed to tell his captivating story to the world.
