Slaves cover Skepta’s Shut Down for BBC Radio 1
Fearne Cotton invited Punk Rock duo Slaves along to the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge studios last week for a live performance and cover of Grime MC Skepta’s ‘Shut Down’. Slaves, consisting of Laurie Vincent and Issac Holman performed the track, with a fusion of Rock and Grime, and throwing in some natural comedy between them to lighten the mood, possibly poking fun at the notion that they seem posh, referring to Mote Park in Maidstone, and delivering a snobbish distressing refix of the excerpt from the original. Other than that, the pair put on a performance full of energy, as Laurie plays a grungy revamp of the electronic synths and Issac provides the thumping drum beat, and with a mix of rapping and shouting the vocals, with Laurie jumping in with adlibs and background vocals.
