Barbados meets Toronto in the new video for Bajan-born, Toronto-based Rap emcee and Singer Teff Hinkson’s new single ‘So Insecure’, featuring Rihanna’s brother Gallest. Due for release on 30th September 2016, the single explores the female insecurities as magnified in modern culture, and addresses social pressures, anxiety at parties and fake confidence on social media. The single is produced by Mohamed Haniff and Yuri Koller, and is a bright, bassy Hip Hop/R&B track with infectious vocals and a hook from Teff, who is one to watch out for in 2017, but is also a relatable song.

Teff has this to say about the song’s inspiration, writing about experiences in both Barbados and Toronto, about the ways we mask our anxieties: “It’s crazy moving between Barbados and Toronto and seeing all these beautiful girls affected by the same insecurities . . .I feel like I hit the nail on the head with the theme of this song.”

Teff addresses an issue that can be applied to any one of us, as we all have the urge to be a more confident version of ourselves. Teff concocts a well-written and crafted song with powerful lyrics and infectious melodies, highlighting the subject he explores, but with effortless charm.
The fantastic visuals for the single is terrifically shot and edited, mirroring the false confidence of the female that appears in the video at a party, with her truthful insecurities, whilst Teff and Gallest appear in the video at a cosmopolitan party in downtown Toronto, sitting on a sofa surrounded by friends as they perform the song. The visuals are directed by Teff himself alongside Zac Facts (who directed the accompanying visuals to The Weeknd & Future’s ‘Low Life’ as well as with the likes of Tory Lanez), and is just as strong and powerful as the song.
