Ten Dixon – Skeng Ten [Explicit]
Grime is a way of life for W.A.V.E’s Ten Dixon, and his newest mixtape exemplifies that point, as Ten releases the “Skeng Ten” tape. The tape features production from Shannon Parkes and SPVNKS aka Spank Cook, Sixty P Beats, Lewis Cullen and TKD. Skeng Ten kicks off with ‘Cold Roads’, featuring rowdy flows from Ten as he sprays bars that depict the reckless life that he leads. Ten Dixon shells a synth-laden, ringtone style Grime beat that also samples Rebound X’s Rhythm N Gash, and is one of many productions from Shannon Parkes. ‘Long For Me’ is another introspective exploration of Ten Dixon’s feelings and state of mind, with Ten spitting rapidly over a slowed down, ambient melody and grime beat, the lyrics stressing the tiresome fighting that Ten sometimes likes to avoid, rather kick back and chill. This track also features distorted singing vocals that blend well with the atmospheric production from Lewis Cullen. Ten Dixon also spits about many tiring things on ‘Same Shit’, bass-heavy Grime beat from Shannon Parkes again. The song states weed as a means to relieve the boredom of same old MC’s. Heavy hitting Grime bangers on the mixtape include ‘What We Got For Them’ featuring MIK, ‘Kicked Out’ with fellow W.A.V.E artist Jon E Clayface, and ‘Shellers’ along with Pawz, just some of the more greezy tracks on the mixtape. Ten Dixon shells some grimy production from Spvnks, Sixty P Beats and Shannon Parkes, displaying quick-fire flow and barring skills and parring inferior MC’s in a boastful manner. Ten Dixon, RD and J Dot literally give us some crud with ‘Crud’. The trio take to a Grime-come-Trap beat with a Middle Eastern twist, and in war mode dumping gully bars conveying what they would be capable of on road hype. Another stand out track on the Skeng Ten mixtape is ‘Pound and a Dream’, a Reggae-infused Grime tune featuring Vader of Invasion Alert, and Jon E Clayface. The three MC’s take to a skippy grime instrumental, rhyming about their dreams that come from their hunger to succeed from nothing, with Ten Dixon even having proud moments in his personal life let alone musical career. The trio devour the beat with equally skippy flows.
The Skeng Ten mixtape showcases Ten Dixon’s unique and distinguishable voice, delivery and spraying technique, as well as displaying his barring capability, all of which put Ten Dixon up there with the top MC’s in Grime. The production varies from up-tempo, energetic instrumentals to more subtle Grime beats with mellow melodies, and the variation from different producers shows Ten’s eclectic style. Ten also covers a range of topics on the mixtape, so his lyrical ability is in no doubt. Overall, this is a solid project from Ten Dixon with a mix of different vibes but nevertheless sticking with the Grime element through out.
