UK Hip Hop group The New Blxck release the visuals for their latest track entitled “Be Calm”. The duo go in with the bars over a dark, moody, ambient almost tribal rap beat, with haunting worldly vocals in the back ground and a menacing bassline. In contrast the chorus tells the listener to “Be Calm”, reaching out to ravers, people from the hood, rivals, those bringin bad vibes and all the haters, with an underlying message of “we know we’re the dogs danglys, but also inciting tongue in cheek rays of peace and good times. The New Blxck spit over the chugging broken beats, spitting about their come up, the swagger and about where they come from in life. “Be Calm” reminds me of early Clipse music, with the production values being raw and gritty (like the music NERD made for their American counterparts), yet the MC’s spitting over the beats with a relaxed air of confidence and understated arrogance. The New Blxck also have slightly contrasting styles with one spitting more about the flash things in life in places and the other rapping about the gullier side of things (again similar to Clipse). The video is a madness, quite trippy with a lot going on visually, capturing the song’s vibe, switching from the sleek studio set to the roadside hood location.
