What a week in Grime!! #ChipSaga
This week has been one of the most competitively compelling and lyrically entertaining weeks, or rather couple weeks in Grimes history! Just in case you are not up to date with happenings, it all started with UK rapper Chip’s recent 1xtra Fire In The Booth freestyle and long winded yet, confidently assured rant about mc’s (mainly Tinie Tempah, who inadvertently or rather purposely dissed him a year ago in a now highly debated and controversial FITB) that want to go at him. Chip went on to say that even if he thinks its a small percentage in his direction that he would be going back at any mc with ferocity.
Chips FITB:
Big Narstie then took to the airwaves to address the situation and shed his own light on the Grime scene, Chips and Tinie’s status in the scene and the standing in Grime’s community. Big Narstie, obviously not in agreement with Chip’s rantings and bold statements of being the “Grime Savior”, left a couple parting shots in his freestyle [Watch Big Narstie’s FITB Here] and gave his opinionated history lesson of the origins of Grime.
Big Narsties ineterview:
Manchester artist Bugzy Malone, racking up quite amount of views on JDZ media (nearly on a million!) and a barrage of smokin hot freestyles on various media channels, got himself on Charlie Sloth’s show to blaze down the beats with his own Fire In The Booth [Check It Out Here], going in at Chip, dissing the Londoner and making it a nation wide industry beef!
Chip obviously not an artist to take put downs lightly, enlisted the monumentos production talents of Rapid, and straight off the back of finishing his eagerly anticipated album “Believe & Achieve”, proceeded to send back for Bugzy, rip into Big Narstie and go at various MC’s in the scene with some harsh one liners on a track called “Pepper Riddim”. The video raised eyebrows and got speculation brewing as to whether an official LOTM clash between Bugzy and Chip could be on the cards as Jammer was in the studio in the video and Chip was wearing an official LOTM/Boiler Room jacket. This was by no means the end of the beef.
Pepper Riddim:
Having dissed Bugzy back, took the michael out of Narstie and mentioned Saskilla and Devilman in his track, all parties responded with videos and tarcks of their own. Big Narstie took to Grime Report’s channel to respond verbally in an [Uncle Pain Chip reply special], with many fans expecting a diss for Chip in music form, Narstie addressed Jammer and Shizz being in Chips video and instead of spitting over a beat to diss him, chose to mock Chip for the duration of the video in an amusing joquial parring segment for the Uncle Pain series.
Grime veteran Devilman was first to reply, in true LOTM sending fashion, firing back at Chip with his explicit style of lyricism and trademark skippy flows reminding people of his tenacity and legendary status (having battle Skepta on the early LOTM DVDs). Not surprisingly Devilman took a few jabs at the BBK camp and of course Skepta. Check out the video below…
In Hot pursuit of Devilman, Saskilla replied with his own diss track, “ahhhah”. Saskilla also went ham with a response to Chip’s DJ Cameo related insult, lip syncing his bars over the 1Xtra radio rip (premiered on DJ Cameo’s show obviously) sptting a frantic, lyrically brutal barage of slews aimed at Chip resulting in a rapid paced banger, which received umpteen wheelups as Saskilla proceeded to merk the beats with animosity. Check out the vid here…
Bugzy Malone was always going to release a diss track for Chip, retaliating to the “Pepper Riddim” with his reply entitled “Relegation Riddim”. The video released by Link Up TV saw Bugzy tear into Chip even more, mocking his money situation, hiring out Chris Brown for a day and Getting dropped from his label. As further insult to injury, the video featured Big Narstie and was filmed in Tottenham (Chip’s manor) right near the Spurs Football ground in view of Chip supporting bitter London rivals Arsenal. Peak times for Mr Munk and the slew of diss tracks have not finished yet!
Bugzy Malone – Relegation Riddim:
Having mentioned Skepta in his Chip diss, Devilman was due for some repercussion from the BBK founder. At around 2am (no rest for the wicked then) Skepta released his menacing reply for the Birmingham mc. Skeppy went ham, remixing Devilman’s bars as well as bringing up the his legal troubles in a lyrically brutal track entitled “Nasty” Check out the video here…
Devilman then replied to Skepta less than 24 hours later, hitting up the studio, literally replying to every point Skepta made on his diss track. Have a look see here…
So in summary it has been a tremendously entertaining few weeks, culminating in a lot of quality and inventively creative music, leaving only a couple options… These MCs keep replying back or they get on LOTM and finish the beef one on one! Either way Grime fans are in for a treat. Whoever’s side you are on these tracks show how strong the scene is. The world must be taking note! Wonder what the likes of Drake think of all the competition… Keep it locked to Death Kiss Media for further updates on the developing situation…
BREAKING NEWS TODAY…
Shizz replies to Saskilla!
To add another angle to the onslaught of diss tracks, Rascals crew member Shizz Mcnaughty returns to GRM Daily’s channel with a fresh hood video for his send for Saskilla entitled “Bazz Of The Week”. Shizz goes in over a bass heavy, menacing Trap slash Grime banger, ripping into Sas with some cheeky lines, such as “Your best bar is a football chant, that’s like going on stage & Ollie Ollying”. The Bow mc also clears up the matter of him appearing briefly in Chip’s diss track, stating that he didn’t hear the line so he doesn’t see it as disrespect. Shizz gives Saskilla something to think about though and the fallout/debate has already begun! We eagerly anticipate a potential reply from Saskilla… Check out the video here…
Who is gonna be next to reply? Who’s been ended? Who needs to come back? Let us know your thoughts on the lyrical carnage…
