North West London Hip Hop lyricist Tevyn J teams up with Minarmy representative Saoud Khalaf for visuals to his recent track ‘Break Free’, a ‘cathartic, confessional, thought-provoking offering’ taken from his debut mixtape ‘Building Blocks: Journey Through My Mind And Time’. The track is a massive track which is produced by producer S-X, and is a Trap banger, with a vibe which could be commercially accessible. Tevyn J rhymes over a bassy Trap instrumental, rhyming about trying to break free from his own depression, channeling his energy in to music and blocking out negativity. It becomes apparent that Tevyn is also trying to escape the demons, not just in his mind, but also all of the badness in his hometown. Tevyn J lets all of this build up inside him, evident from the fact that he states that he doesn’t show his feelings, until he explodes on track like this. Tevyn J ferociously spits his bars, flowing smoothly yet with a gritty, hard-edged vibe. The hook is a smoothly sung chorus by Tevyn himself, which adds an RnB/Urban vibe, and is superbly written and crafted. Saoud Khalaf excellently combines montages and shots of Tevyn J seemingly in battle with his fears and emotions, with kaleidoscope and mirror effects which are fitting for the track’s lyricism given the confusion that Tevyn conveys.
