Andy Sargeant – Metamorphosis 2
Andy Sargeant, an aspiring Hip Hop artist hailing from Portsmouth, returns with his new EP “Metamorphosis 2”, the follow up to the first volume released last August. Featuring production from fellow Portsmouth musician Arca Teck and guest spot from Sample C, Several tracks on the EP are about Andy Sargeant battling and fighting to survive in the everyday struggles that life has to throw at him. ‘Pound of Flesh’, an intro to the EP, features Andy rhyming over a fusing Hip Hop and Rock vibes. This track as well as ‘Defying Physics’, produced by Arca Teck, contains several lyrics that suggest, with out a doubt, that music is Andy’s channel for all his emotions, anger and a medium to vent his frustration, thoughts and opinions. ‘Slave to the Labour’ is a track on which Andy showcases some brilliant wordplay based around football and tennis, emphasizing the need to have a competitive streak and lead rather than become a slave. Sample C features on two tracks, perhaps my favourite is ‘Warzone’. The pair of rappers rhyme on a thumping beat with an orchestral melody, the production building a picture of going to war. An underlying message is to not give up and soldier on through times of pain.
The sound and production on the EP is raw, giving it that underground hip hop quality. Andy Sargeant’s lyrical ability is however is impressive, his wordplay and pen game is remarkable, as he displays his high lyrical capability. The lyrics for the most part let the listener take a journey in to his mind and his thoughts.
