Koder – The Calm (Free Download)
Grime emcee Koder recently released a brand new Grime mixtape entitled “The Calm”, which features 11 tracks, with production by the likes of G Tank, Fonix, Wonder, Mally and Wize. Koder opts for no features from any other artists, dropping an array of different flows on the hectic production, each sounding different to the next but still Koder comes with a amped up Grime delivery and flow.
The title track “The Calm” sees Koder drop high lyrical content on a slow Grime beat produced by GTank, with a chorus which Koder sings himself, taking on the whole track himself showcasing his great delivery, and song writing skills.
One of the lead tracks, “Avenger”, which Koder filmed a music video for is produced by Fonix, and Koder peppers the beat, showcasing more great barring qualities, doing it all on his own, bodying most of the competition, and he drills in to you the point that he doesn’t want to do tunes with anyone, and rightly so as Koder is talented enough to be able to do that, and by the lyricism, he has enough to talk about.
Koder’s sick flow and crazy delivery, and mental state of rhyme continues on tracks like “Sword Of Damocles”, a different style of production by Mally, which Koder spits flames, coming across in his delivery and voice as a bit crazy, and the music is not your average Grime, Koder getting hype spitting mad, insane lyrics.
“Thug Life” produced by Wonderbeats sees Koder spit hard bars, with a chorus which resonates the fact that Koder lives a Thug Life, this could also be seen as a sort of celebration of 2 Pac, a tribute of sorts, and at one point he steals, or more like borrows the flow from “Hail Mary”. This is a crazy track, Koder taking on the role as the Grime version of Tupac Shakur.
“Shoreditch” and “Brockley” see Koder paying tribute to his hometown, “Shoreditch” produced by GTank sees Koder realising the world outside of Shoreditch, but still at the end of the day he still has Shoreditch to thank, and “Brockley” is where he goes in to more depth spitting about the actual place where he grew up, expressing his desire to be a role model or icon of sorts to Brockley. At times he states that he wants to be like what Biggie is to Clinton Hill, 2 Pac is to Harlem, and even Wretch is to Tottenham. Koder wants to be someone that people from Brockley look to and can be proud of and think, yeah, he came from here, and he has made it that far, and claim him as one of their homegrown talents.
This is a big mixtape by Koder, and he covers an array of subject matters, showcasing his wide range of flows, lyricism that highlights his roots, his influences as well, and he takes you on a journey through his life up until now.
Koder, along with the eclectic and different styles of production by various producers on this project, shows us that he doesn’t need anyone to make him sound good, doesn’t need anyone to hold him and support him on the track, and his sheer talent for song writing, his original delivery, flow and great, intelligent lyricism holds him in great stead.
Koder is one of the better emcee’s in the Grime scene, I think personally after listening to this mixtape, which is also a quality mixtape packed with excellence, a overall full package of music here.
