London’s very own Courtney Bennett releases a stunning rendition of Justin Bieber’s recent pop hit Heartbreaker. Courtney adds real soul and depth to what was before a paint by numbers, generic love song aimed at teenage girls. Courtney layers her vocals expertly, adding some beautiful adlibs and delicious harmonies throughout, emotionally connecting with the premise of the lyrics with apparent ease. Whilst the production of Heartbreaker leans towards RnB, Justin Bieber’s voice makes it a pop affair. Ms Bennett totally changed my opinion of the song, making me fall in love with the track (a sign of a truly great artist), literally turning a sows ear into a silk purse with her vocal stylings. There is something so sweet and warm about Courtney’s voice, innocent, yet pained and hurt by previous love maybe, a thing we can all relate to. Maybe its geographical bias, or that I’m a fan of propper RnB singers, but make no mistake, to compare Courtney Bennett’s skills as a singer to the amazing talents of Aaliyah would not be far from the truth. One of the worlds top talents in Soul/RnB and I for one eagerly anticipate the release of her next track. Check out the talent and leave us your feedback below…
