Nego True – Daddy Are You Proud Of Me? (Spoken Word) | Link Up TV
UK lyricist Nego True recently dropped a very powerful spoken word piece on Link Up TV entitled “Daddy Are You Proud?”. Rhyming over a violin and piano-led, mellow live band instruments, Nego takes you on a rocky journey through different father relationships. Rhyming about how words can make an impact on a child growing up, talking about forgiveness and regrets, also going in to situations where parents argue, in this case over having no money, the child in the middle turning to crime, feeling like it is his own fault, building up anger at the thought of his dad not sticking around for birthdays and growing up in general, having to look after his mother who played the role of both mum and dad. Nego True distinguishes the difference to a dad sending money and spending time with his kid, fear and respect. Nego then talks on how he feels like he got his traits from his father, although he switches and realises he wouldn’t want to be the same father he was. With growing up, becoming the man of the house, bringing happiness to friends and family, Nego spits about having so much responsibility, and only memories of his dad, The running theme is about making your dad proud, with Nego asking the question “Daddy, are you proud of me?”, whether you turn out like your father, or aspire to a better man and father, you may always want to ask that ultimate question. Very powerful spoken word poetry from Nego True who also seemed to really connect with the subject matter, looking like he was going to shed a tear. I have so much respect for Nego dropping this, something which bought about so much empathy for me with this rather poetic performacne. Check it out now and leave us your feedback . . .
