Commodo ft. JME – Shift
THUMP: The tune itself is a shift of sorts, finding Commodo stepping away from the dubstep sounds that made him and trying out its sonic brethren, grime. “There has been a big resurgence in grime music being made these past couple of years, some of it emulating classic sounds and appealing to nostalgia, some of it updating the style and bringing it to new places,” Commodo tells THUMP. “Being a die-hard FL Studio user ever since I started producing, Grime beats were inevitably the first thing I made – and now felt like an appropriate time to reach out and try a vocal track…I didn’t really have any interest in referencing the production styles of the early 2000’s, I felt much more comfortable doing something that fits with where I’m at right now.”
International DJ/Producer Commodo takes a step away from the dubstep sounds that have made him, and tries his hand at the UK’s genre of Grime, getting one the leading MC’s, Boy Better Know’s JME for the track called ‘Shift’. Feeling the like the time was right for where he is in his career, Commodo concocts a grimey, heavyweight Trap production, for JME to spit over, warning those concerned to handle themselves properly, treading carefully when it comes to warring. JME rhymes about having your head about you, dragging up stories of the likes of Wiley slipping, and expressing that you have to have your eyes peeled, metaphorically going in with the wordplay, In a nutshell, JME schools us on how to go about beefing, not to be stupid and come proper, if not you would get spun. JME radiates energy on the beat, hard hitting delivery that complements the beat, and the bars are hype and wheel up worthy.
