Benjamin A.D – Mandatory Mantra
South London Hip Hop Philosopher Benjamin A.D is back with the second instalment in a monthly series, called ‘Mandatory Mantra’. This follows up the Junia-T produced ‘Come My Way’, and sees Ben take to thudding rhythmic drums and up-tempo percussion. The lyrics of the song convey what Ben says is to “highlight different lives people live across the city and how bad scenarios trigger bad thoughts”, also stating that “the repetition is the mantra with the message being mandatory”. The song also depicts Ben’s fight to banish the demons, which in the short visuals directed by Lozcast, are represented by blinking hand-drawn illustrations from artist Taniel Rave. The video, a “pseudo-diary entry” in Benjamin’s world, emphasizes the reality of his music. Ben performs part of the song in freestyle form, highlighting the poignancy of the lyrics as a mantra. Check out both the visuals and audio below and leave us your feedback in the comments section . . .
