Legendary UK emcee Flirta D recently released a small but epic mixtape which boasts of 10 strong tracks including a few freestyles that see the man famed for his crazy SFX flex his lyrical prowess on a mixture of eclectic sounds ranging from Trap to Hip Hop, Grime to Bassline.

The first track “Ma Ma Magic Music Freestyle” sees Flirts flowing smoothly over an old school type Hip Hop beat, a soulful and wonderfully executed sample, and Flirta D showcases straight lyrical talent and quick and witty punchlines.

Flirta D continues to prove that he isn’t a one trick pony on a few Trap beats including “I Move”, “Well Done Remix”, “Full Of Sutting”, and “Rock And Shake”. “Rock And Shake” is a particular favourite of mine with a Trap vibe, with Flirta D dropping the hook at the beginning which is simple but effective, and then proceeds to kick in to a rapid verse, with solid flow and hard bars on this hard-hitting banger.

“Champs And Beers” is a different vibe to some of the other tracks on the mixtape, seeing Flirta D come with a simple concept, but what he throws in to the track in terms of lyrics, SFX and flow is brilliantly executed, and he keeps the flow of the song at the same speed through out, and Axe Berry joins him to add another dimension to it.

“Foolishly” sees Flirta D change it up yet again with a bassline type beat, and reminds me of a Garage emcee from back in the day. Flirta throws in his legendary and simply crazy trademark SFX on this one, changing up the flow with rapid flows, and writes a strong hook around a girl acting foolishly, incorporating SFX on that one. The production is also original with Teeza on production.

Dirty Daps shows up as a strong feature on “#EGGWGB” which stands for “Every Good Girl Wanna Go Bad”, and is a mix of Grime and Trap I suppose, and is a good lil number to rock in this hot climate this summer, and a video wouldn’t go a miss either.

“The Woods” is a slow jam in a way, slowed down and Flirta D adapts to the style, showing that he is truly a diverse artist with more than one string to his bow, the track has a floaty and dreamy feel to it.

All in all, this is a great lil mixtape thrown together by Flirta D, and even though it seems like it may have been a quick project, without speculation, he is one of the strongest emcee’s in the UK scene, and his performances from track to track are electrifying and compelling, drawing you in, and he proves to the haters if he has any, and any doubters that he is a lyricist as well as just the crazy SFX emcee.
