Lemzi recently released a new mini EP “KAYTRANADA, HOLLA!’, written and recorded over 2 days, for his birthday. The EP’s title is a nod to Haitian-Canadian electronic musician, producer and DJ Kaytranada, and Lemzi takes five beats from the producer’s 2016 release 99.9% for this project. The five beats that Lemzi rhymes over are mostly upbeat rap beats with unorthodox sounds and drum patterns, mixing electronic instrumentation and soulful melodies. ‘Track Uno’ features Lemzi flowing with ease on a beat with a club vibe, expressing his passion for music and having fun as he shows off his arsenal of flows and lyrics. ‘Search For Serenity’ uses Kaytranada’s Bus Ride instrumental, which is influenced by Jazz and Lounge Music. Lemzi spits wise, philosophical rhymes about his search for serenity, calm and peace in this existence on earth or heaven. Lemzi’s bars lay on the beat smoothly, which also so happens to have some busy percussion. ‘YO, K!’ takes Kaytranada’s Weight Off, which is up-tempo at first with a string bassline and energetic beat pattern, where Lemzi rips it with some excellent fast-flowing spitting, boasting of his superiority, and as the beat slows up and calms, Lemzi delivers double-time flows on the beat. Lemzi uses the Despite The Weather instrumental for ‘Free Of Style’, dropping some slick punchlines and bars in which Lemzi radiates confidence. ‘End Of’ uses ‘Breakdance’ which is influenced by disco/club music, and yet another electronica production, Lemzi rhymes effortlessly with a range of flows on the beat which contains a funky guitar riff, as he lyrically belittles rival rappers with his wordplay.
