It is almost that time of the year once again when the MOBO Awards takes place on November 4th 2016, celebrating Music of Black Origin, from The SSE Hydro in Glasgow. We have seen and heard some astounding music from UK Urban acts as well as International too. Grime continues to rise in prominence as a culture, with the likes of Skepta, Stormzy, Chip, Ghetts, Kano and Wiley championing it this year. UK Rap has been at it’s strongest too, Giggs, , Fekky, Section Boyz, Little Simz and Wretch 32 are all up for nominations as Best Hip Hop act this year.
WSTRN have taken the mainstream by storm, the R&B/Soul trio released ‘In2’ in late 2015, and are up against newcomers, Grime artist AJ Tracey, original UK Drillaz 67, Anne Marie, UK Rappers MoStack and Avelino, Nadia Rose, Izzy Bizu and more. WSTRN and Nadia Rose are just two acts to be up for more than one award. WSTRN are up for Best Newcomer, as is Nadia Rose, and Best Song. Nadia is nominated for Best Video. Little Simz is also up for Best Female and Best Hip Hop Act. Laura Mvula and NAO are both up for Best Female Act and Best RNB/Soul Act.
The Females are strongly represented, in the Best Female Act category, there are Lady Leshurr, whose Queen’s Speech series has gained widespread attention, Katy B, Laura Mvula, Little Simz, and NAO.
Other categories include African Act, with Mista Silva and Wizkid up for contention, and Protoje and Popcaan are both included in the Best Reggae Act category. The International Act category features Beyonce, Anderson .Paak, Rihanna, Drake, DJ Khaled, Chance The Rapper, Bryson Tiller, Tory Lanez, Justin Bieber, Kanye West and more.
