Mr Melta and Remulak – Snap Out Of It E.P
Rhymepad Records and Cambridge native musicians Mr Melta, BBC Cambridgeshire’s ‘Introducing’ program, and producer Remulak whose credits stretch to the likes of Hypeman Sage, Stakka Lyrics and The Squid Ninja Crew both team up for a new E.P which all came about after suggestion of collaborating and the result being the track “Day Off”, they have finally released a project of 6 tracks featuring fellow Stakka Lyrics with cuts by Jabba That Kut. With all lyrics written by himself, Mr Melta showcases great lyrical talent, proving himself as a true wordsmith for those who were in any doubt. Mr Melta’s flow suits the more classic Hip Hop type beats, reminscent of the early 90’s East Coast production. On such tracks as “Brain Traffic” and “Troubling Times”, he rhymes about negative times, the former features Melta running through things on his mind, from falling on hard times, messing up happy things in his life and wishing to be young again, talking about how not having a care, comparing then to the now which is full of injustice, violence, greed a naturla disasters, Mr Melta sits back and reflects on how ignorant we are to such things. Jabba Tha Kut adds the scratches over Remulak’s instrumental, adding a Bronx feel to the beat.
“Troubled Times” is hard-hitting Hip Hop beat which Melta spits comfortable flows over, spitting about his stress, wishing on more happy times, chossing drugs and drink to solve his problems, airing his political views also. Perfect hook too, blends in well with the whole track, yet stands out. These two tracks display Mr Melta’s conscious lyrical side, reflecting on his own troubles in his own life as well as the community.
“Day Off” is a more positive vibe, the jaa production by Remulak gives you the sense of being in a jazz bar, as he layers the constant hats and snares with the beat and beautifully relasing piano. Mr Melta invites you in to a sunny day in his life, chilling with friends, smoking a bud, ladies sipping on wine or lager for the lads, having amunch up, and eve after summer is up, he just lets time pass by. The combination of Mr Melta’s laid-back delivery and Remulak’s production puts me in mind of The Pharcyde’s music. Brilliant vibes.
“Focus” and the title track “Snap Out Of It” show Mr Melta to be his own person, a guy that doesn’t follow trends just to be cool, which is evident in his lyrical content, as he isn’t one of those typical UK rappers stuck on unrealistic galmorised street life and materialistic things. Mr Melta brings the message of staying focused on reality, keep doing you and not being distracted by trends, fakers, basically focus on the positives rasther than negatives. Stakka Lyrics is featured on “Snap Out Of It”, a more focused track on trends and fashion, both lyricist ripping the track lyrically, opting to focus on the Hip Hop art form rather than trying to come harder than next man. These two artists jump on the track to put some sense in to our minds, to pull us away from being brainwashed by the media. Stakka Lyrics spits hard, ruggish delivery, both coming with superb flows, juggling their words effortlessly. Spot on with the hook once again, from Mr Melta whose song-writing shines again. “Do My Thing” is another which Mr Melta kicks rhymes, about a life working 9 to 5, inflations, and striving to survive and just getting on, staying away from crime and putting in work to get where he wants to be. Remulak’s production is epic too.
Mr Melta is quite a brillaint lyricist, with some underlying messages in many of the tracks, the E.P takes you on a journey of Melta’s life, a realistic portrayal of which he could be speaking for almost any young male in the society, but he comes across as a superb wordsmith, in which he expresses his own experiences, thoughts and opinions, vocabulary stretching far, in which he sometimes becomes a bit of a poet. The good times and bad times on the tracks are livend up with great, quality Hip Hop prodction by Remulak which suits Melta’s rhyme style. A minimal but satifying project for any fan with this project, big production and song-writing from all involved.
